After three days in a row of triple digit temperatures, a low pressure system from the Gulf of Alaska will move over the area this weekend.
High temperatures in the Motherlode will range from the mid to upper 70s on Saturday and Sunday. In the Sierra, temperatures will range anywhere from the 40s to the 60s.
Campers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts should be aware of the threat of an inch or two of snow on Saturday night and Sunday above 9000 feet.
According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms and a chance of showers are a possibility over the mountains and in some foothill locations on both Saturday and Sunday.
Breezy to windy conditions should be expected throughout the weekend.
By Monday a warming trend will commence with a return to normal weather for late August.
