San Bruno, CA — One strike team of five engines and a Battalion Chief from the CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras jurisdiction were dispatched last night to assist in the massive fire in San Bruno.
The Associated Press reports that an explosion sent flames roaring through a neighborhood in the hills south of San Francisco around 6pm, destroying over 50 homes. A gas line ruptured in the vicinity of the blast, which left a giant crater and sent flames tearing across several suburban blocks. Flames hot enough to crack a fire engine windshield incinerated 53 homes and damaged 120 others. The fire is 10 percent contained.
