CAL Fire Transition Begins Next Week

Sonora, CA — CAL Fire will start allowing nighttime burning Monday, October 11th within the Tuolumne-Calaveras jurisdiction.

CAL Fire permits will be required, and burning will only be allowed between the restricted burn hours of 7pm-8am. CAL Fire will also start transitioning into its winter preparedness phase on Monday, as engine staffing will be reduced from 21-to-15, and some seasonal firefighters will be released.

TCU Unit Chief Mike Noonan reminds everyone, “Now is the time to work on 100 foot defensible space around your home. Defensible space helps protect your property, your neighbor’s property and your community.”

Burning will only be allowed on “permissive burn nights” as deemed by the Air Pollution Control District.
