Sonora, CA– Tuolumne County is looking into the possibility of requesting state aid to help in the cleanup from last week’s winter storms.
Recovery efforts and damage assessments are still underway but it is believed that emergency response costs and damage to private and public property will be considerable. Early estimates from the County Public Works Department alone indicate that response to this one storm will nearly deplete the full year’s budget allocation for overtime.
Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services Director Liz Bass signed a Declaration of Local State of Emergency on Wednesday.
Tuolumne County OES Coordinator Kathleen Rustrum said, “What we have coming up is the board meeting on Tuesday the 7th. The board will look at this proclamation and make a decision whether or not to ratify it and whether to move forward and ask for state aid.”
Earlier this week the Governor declared a State of Emergency for neighboring Calaveras County.
