CAL Fire Plans Prescribed Burn Ahead Of The Fourth

Sonora, CA – Ahead of Thursday’s July Fourth holiday, CAL Fire plans a prescribed burn in the Groveland and Big Oak Flat area.

According to CAL Fire officials, the slated burn will be Wednesday on the Crook Ranch Vegetation Management Plan, which may create visible smoke in the daytime hours.

They say the goals of the burn are to benefit the watershed, provide protection from wildland fire, and improve range conditions by reducing noxious medussahead grass.

If conditions are conducive, fire personnel will burn approximately 65 acres of grass and oak woodland understory between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. On scene, officials anticipate five fire engines, two fire crews, one water-tender, and one dozer.
