Update at 5:45pm: CAL Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit officials say units continue to make progress on the Lake Fire.
The blaze broke out early Monday afternoon on the south side of Lake Mcswain. At last report, the wildfire was estimated at 222 acres with 40 percent containment. The updated location is described as in the vicinity of the McSwain Entrance and Lake McClure Road in Hornitos. The blaze is burning in grass and not near any structures.
Update at 4:57pm: Firefighters are making progress on the Lake Fire south of Lake Mcswain, now reported at 222 acres with 40 percent containment.
Update at 3:55pm: The Lake Fire south of Lake Mcswain is now reported at 222 acres with 20 percent containment.
CAL Fire officials say that Columbia aircraft are now off the incident.
Update at 3:20pm: CAL Fire officials say the Lake Fire, still uncontained is now at 100 acres with a slow rate of spread.
Burning in grass on the south side of Lake Mcswain, the incident location is now reported by CAL Fire as between Exchecquer and Hornitos roads.
Update at 2:52pm: Air and ground units continue to fight the Lake Fire on the south side of Lake McSwain. CAL Fire officials say it is still about 50 to 75 acres and in grassy terrain where there are no structures to be at threat.
There is still no containment of the blaze.
Update at 2:18pm: CAL Fire MMU Unit officials say a fire that broke out on the south side of Lake Mcswain is now 50 to 75 acres and is called the Lake Fire.
While dispatch officials are still getting details, they say the rate of spread is moderate, engines are arriving onscene, there is no word of any structures under threat nor any containment yet.
Original Post at 2pm: Sonora, CA — Columbia aircraft are headed to the south side of Lake McSwain in the Snelling, Merced Falls area for a reported fire.
No details yet as to a more precise location or if it is threatening anything but CAL Fire MMU (Madera-Mariposa-Merced) Unit officials say the incident could be a possible five to ten-acre fire.
