Sonora, CA — CAL Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit officials are making progress on the Lake Fire and containment has grown overnight.
The flames broke out in some grass early Monday afternoon on the south side of Lake McSwain. It continues to burn in the vicinity of the McSwain Entrance and Lake McClure Road in Hornitos, as reported here. Cal Fire reports that the forward rate of spread has been stopped at 244 acres and containment grew from 40 to 60 percent this morning. Crews will continue working on full containment, mopping up and checking for hotspots. No structures were threatened and what sparked the fire is under investigation.
