While major cities throughout the western USA saw drops in tourism by twenty to forty percent, Tuolumne County had only a small drop in the number of visitors this Summer.
Nancy Sikes, Executive Director for the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
According to Sikes, the number of both international and in-state visitors remained on par with last year. The only drop seemed to be from US residents outside of the State of California.
Sikes will present a complete report for the fiscal year before the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday October 20th. She shared her “sneak peak” with KVML.
The report includes the number of individuals who called and/or e-mailed the Visitors Bureau requesting more information about the services and attractions within the County. Walk-in traffic was heavier, than year’s past, with nearly ten thousand visitors at the Bureau’s Yosemite Visitors Center, located at Yosemite Junction (Highways 108 and 120).
Sikes continues to monitor the affects of the State Park budgets which were cute severely, after the parks were threatened to close all together. The possibility of closure still exists after June 30, 2010.
Looking ahead, Sikes is excited about the “Senior Winter Games” which are scheduled for Dodge Ridge in early March of 2010. This will be the first time that the Senior Winter Games will have been held and hosted in Tuolumne County.
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am
