Update: Columbia Aircraft Heading To Fire Off HWY 4

Update at 3:10 p.m.: CAL Fire spokesperson Lindy Shoff reports that crews have stopped the forward rate of spread at one to two acres on a blaze burning along Dunton Road near Highway 4 in Stanislaus County near the Calaveras County Line. The flames broke out in some grass just after 2 p.m. and smoke could be seen streaming into the air east of the Orvis cattle ranch, according to CAL Fire. No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported. All aircraft have been called back to Columbia airbase. Ground crews will remain on scene until full containment is reached while also mopping up for the next couple of hours. Shoff relays that what ignited the fire is under investigation.

Update at 2:45 p.m.: CAL Fire reports that the fire burning along Dunton Road near Highway 4 in Stanislaus County near the Calaveras County Line is one to two acres in size and moving at a slow rate of spread. The flames broke out in some grass just after 2 p.m. and smoke could be seen billowing into the air, according to CAL Fire.

Original post at 2:20 p.m.: Stanislaus County, CA — CAL Fire, including Columbia aircraft, is responding to a vegetation fire in the eastern section of Stanislaus County near the Calaveras County Line, off of Highway 4.

CAL Fire reports that smoke can be seen in the skies above Dunton Road, which is east of the Orvis cattle ranch. There is no word on the fire’s size, rate of spread or whether any structures are threatened. We will have an update as soon as more information comes into the newsroom.
