Sonora, Ca — Betty Sonderman, who goes by the pen name Elizabeth Sonderman, was a young child when her family was sent to an internment camp near Manila during World War II.
Sonderman, who now makes her home in Tuolumne County, has released a book chronicling the experience.
“My father was a guerrilla leader in the underground against the Japanese when they invaded the Philippines Islands,” says Sonderman. “My mother, my brother, I, and later on my father, were interned in the infamous Santo Tomas Internment Camp for civilian prisoners of the Japanese. It was because we were American.”
Sonderman´s account is entitled, “By the East Wind Driven.” The book has been published by Rose Dog Books.
