Update: Fire Ignites Near Long Barn

Update at 10:55am: The Rushing Fire located near Long Barn in the Stanislaus National Forest remains 7.5 acres and the forward rate of spread has been stopped. On scene, there are eight Type 3 engines, two water tenders, two dozers and four hand crews. Crews have begun mopping up along the perimeter to secure containment lines.

Update: According to Tuolumne Calaveras CAL Fire Unit spokesperson Emily Kilgore in the December 2019 end of year report here “The Nov. 19 Rushing Fire near Long Barn that burned 8.77 acres was triggered by a vehicle.”

Update at 9:38am: Updating an earlier report, the Stanislaus National Forest is estimating that a fire along Lyons Creek Road off Highway 108 is 7.5 acres. Crews have now successfully put a hose line around the entire fire.

Update at 8:45am: The Stanislaus National Forest reports that a fire along Lyons Creek Road is estimated to be 3-5 acres. Crews have successfully put a hose line around 90-percent of the fire. There are four Forest Service engines on scene, along with five from CAL Fire, a Forest Service dozer, a CAL Fire dozer, and other resources. Aircraft has been canceled. The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is still putting up some smoke visible near Highway 108. The fire is approximately 1/2 mile down Lyons Creek Road off of Highway 108.

Original story posted at 7:35am: Long Barn, CA — There is a vegetation fire this morning that officials are working to investigate and extinguish in the area of Lyons Creek Road off Highway 108.

Officials report that it is in the vicinity of Lyons Reservoir and situated outside of Long Barn. The size of the fire is unclear. We’ll pass along more information as it becomes available.
