Sacramento, CA — Horse owners in the Mother Lode and statewide will be asked to participate in a widespread vaccination effort to prevent West Nile virus.
Experts say the disease killed more than 200 horses in the state last year and struck hundreds more.
About 200 Californians are being asked to participate the government health management survey.
The first case of West Nile virus was found in Calaveras County in a dead bird in San Andreas last week.
