Mother Lode Recreation Guide
From fishing or panning for gold to shopping for antiques, the Mother Lode is full of opportunities to do something fun. Staycation at home and enjoy the activities that are already close to you. Explore some of the tallest peaks, domes and passes in California at more than 9,000 feet above sea level. Go rafting on the Wild and Scenic Tuolumne River, or take a packhorse to explore the wilderness! Learn about some of the local wildlife here, and be prepared if you see a local bear or mountain lion.
Load up a backpack with our helpful backpacking list or set up a tent at one of several campgrounds. Many locals explore the area from an off highway vehicle (such as an ATV, rock crawler or snowmobile.) For all the snow sports look above 5,000 feet.
