Tomato Farmers Face Declined Production

Sacramento, CA — California tomato growers are looking at what officials are calling a “troublesome year.”
Forecasters say poor planting conditions last spring were followed by moist, hot weather that encouraged crop diseases in tomato fields.
Officials say this year´s production of processing tomatoes will be about 12 percent lower than last year.
California farms produce about 95 percent of the country´s tomatoes that go into various products such as ketchup, salsa and tomato sauce.
