It’s Wet, But Burn Restrictions Remain

Yes, there´s rain, snow and wet ground, but the outdoor burning bans in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties are still in effect.

Tuolumne County Fire Marshall Kari Hubbard says it´s a state made decision, not local.

“The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection are the folks who put this burning ban in place and they´re the ones who need to lift it,” she explained. “No outdoor yard burning.”

Hubbard said until the fires are out in Southern California, we are still under the burning ban restrictions. “Don´t do any outside burning until we can get this lifted,” she added.

As soon as the fires are out in the south state region, the ban will continue to be in place. Hubbard said even though we are getting good amounts of rain and snow in the Mother Lode, other portions of the state continue to experience dry conditions and high fire danger. Another reason is much of the state´s local fire resources are still in the southern California area.

But once those fires are totally out, “then we will be able to burn,” Hubbard said,

Tuolumne County still has 18 fire engines and crews battling the fires in Southern California.
