Students who carry around heavy backpacks may be getting some relief soon. The State Assembly is sending a bill to the Senate that would look into creating options for carrying heavy backpacks.
The bill, AB 2532, would require school boards to survey school districts to find creative, cost-effective options to reduce the excess weight.
The bill used to require that school boards create a maximum weight standard for textbooks.
Assemblyman Rod Pacheco says though that he just wants to make sure that students are no longer carrying 40-pound backpacks on their growing bodies.
