Chamber Studies Housing Problems

Members of the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce and area realtors have begun a series of meetings to discuss affordable housing in the Mother Lode. George Segarini of the Chamber says the group plans to look for ways to encourage development of apartment buildings, condominiums and similar high-density projects. The group will be suggesting revisions to the housing element of the county´s General Plan, which is due for an update in 2003. Segarini says some employers are having trouble getting workers to move into the area because it´s nearly impossible for them to find a place to live.
