Levering, Mark

Mark Stephen Levering, 73, born April 29, 1947 in Long Beach, California, passed away after a 10-year struggle with prostate cancer Thursday, April 1, 2021 at his residence in Sonora, California.

He is greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years Evalyn, their children and families: Bethany and Matt Mowad, and their kids Marin and Brooke; Nathan and Kathy and their kids, Kaylin, Kirah, Kaden, and Skyler; Brian and Ryan and
their kids Eli, Liana and Mikala.

Mark’s life was devoted to serving the Lord and any impact, legacy, or influence attributed to him he would have credited back to a life of humble service as strengthened and directed by God. His love for and obedience to Jesus is seen most clearly in his prioritization of honoring and serving his wife and his family. This relationship was the foundation of his pastoral work in Sonora, California for 48 years, as founding and lead pastor at Sierra Bible Church in Sonora, CA for 40 years and ministry development
around the world.

He was a man of deep convictions, a constant learner, a student of the Word of God…and good ice cream! He loved experiencing and learning about the world through being out in nature or traveling in a variety of different cultures. His understated sense of humor served him well up until he passed. He was a consistent encourager, bending the hearts and minds around him to see what the Lord may be “up to” in their lives. The book, A Long Obedience in the Same Direction, sums up his life well:
“The truth of God explained their lives, the grace of God fulfilled their lives, the forgiveness of God renewed their lives, the love of God blessed their lives.”

To continue to enable a ministry Mark cared deeply about, a memorial fund will be set up through Sierra Bible Church for the
ongoing work at Good News Bible Church In Ryazan, Russia. Please note “Good News Bible Church” on any donations made in his honor.
