San Andreas, CA — The CHP released the numbers related to its New Year’s Weekend Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) in Calaveras County, which sadly included a fatal wreck.

As previously reported, 23-year-old Kyle Towler died after crashing his motorcycle along Barbour Road, east of Silver Rapids Road on New Year’s Eve. CHP spokesperson Rebecca Myers says the wreck remains under investigation as they are awaiting toxicology reports. This ends 2015 with a total of ten fatal accidents. Myers notes the previous three years there had been no deadly crashes.

Additionally, out of the seven accidents over the holiday weekend three people suffered injuries with  no arrests made, according to Myers, who indicates that it is an improvements from the 2014 statistics when four motorists were arrested for driving under the influence. However, she indicates one area for improvement is speeding, as officers wrote twenty citations for drivers going over the posted limit and six others for mechanical violations.

As reported Monday, in Tuolumne County  there were three DUI arrests and eight minor injury accidents.
