Four Candidates So Far Seeking T.U.D. Seats
Sonora, CA — There remains just one more week for candidates to file paperwork to run for many local seats that will be on the November ballot.
The filing deadline for special districts and school boards is Friday, August 12. In the cases where an incumbent is not seeking re-election, the deadline will be extended to Wednesday, August 17.
One of the more high profile races will be the Tuolumne Utilities District where there are three available seats. According to the Tuolumne County Election’s Office, all of the incumbents have filed paperwork to run for re-election, and they are John Maciel, Ron Kopf and Kent Johnson. The only challenger to this point is local attorney David Axelrod. Voters will be asked to pick three candidates.
Local races will only appear on the ballot if more candidates apply than there are available seats. For example, as it stands right now, only three candidates are running for the three Twain Harte Community Services District seats. They include Jim Johnson, Gary Sipperley and Richard Knudson. Candidates for local Assembly and Congressional races were determined during the June Primary election. Running for US Congress District Four are Republican Tom McClintock and Democrat Robert Derlet. In the Assembly District Five race are Republican Frank Bigelow and Democrat Robert Carabas. California’s US Senate race will be a faceoff between two Democrats, Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez.
