Central Sierra Audubon Society (CSAS) invites members of the community to hear how Audubon members are trying to help birds as wildlife habitat diminishes by monitoring and maintaining more than 40 bird boxes along Highways 108 and 49 in Tuolumne County. The free presentation is set for Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Tuolumne County Library community room. These members will discuss their successes and challenges regarding the nesting behavior of Bluebirds, Ash-throated Flycatchers and other cavity nesting species. Cavity nesters are species who choose to build their nests in hollowed out holes or cavities in trees or fence posts. As habitat diminishes and competition for nesting space becomes challenging, programs to support cavity nesters with bird boxes have developed across the country. These nest boxes have “turned the tide” positively for Western Bluebirds that call our region home. The presentation will also be carried over Zoom simultaneously. Zoom log-in information is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89613702953. This information also is available on the CSAS website at www.centralsierreaudubon.org.
