Join us at the Museum Courtyard down town Sonora for this informative program and see the historic art in the Museum! Note the time. An artist, collector, educator, and art restorer, Dennis Garcia will give a demonstration in the Museum Courtyard in June on how he cleans works of art.
Dennis taught art for thirty years, concluding his teaching career at Turlock High School. After moving to Tuolumne County he opened Ventana Gallery on Washington Street, providing a great service to the community by displaying the work of various artists from the 1800s to the present, while working as an art restorer.
The Historical Society has Dennis to thank for the 2012 restoration of the Benjamin Sears painting Meadow and Horses and the cleaning of historic paintings Bell Meadow and Kennedy Meadow.
Over the last few months Dennis has worked to restore Charles Levi Hough’s Bone Spring Cabin and Sugar Pine Path. The latter was exhibited at the palace of Fine Arts during the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Thankfully, Dennis has brought both paointings back to life and they are scheduled to be part of new exhibits in the museum.
