Carol Ann Smith, born February 22, 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, California. Carol Ann Smith, a vibrant woman with strong opinions, passed away after a sudden illness on July 16, 2023 in Modesto, California. She was born on February 22, 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Carol Ann attended Woodrow Wilson and Lake Highlands High Schools in Dallas, Texas. She furthered her education at Louisiana State University and Abilene Christian University. Throughout her life, Carol Ann pursued various careers, including Law Enforcement, Real Estate, and Child Support Services.

Carol Ann found purpose and community in her places of worship. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Garland, Texas, and Word of Life Fellowship in Miwuk Village, California. Carol Ann was known as a powerful prayer intercessor in her local church community and beyond. In her spare time, Carol Ann enjoyed decorating, reading, traveling or taking scenic drives.

Carol Ann leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and determination that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her laugh, humor, and great love for her Savior and the people in her life will be greatly missed!

Carol Ann is survived by her husband of 24 years, Paul Smith of Columbia, California, her son Joseph “Greg” Gassner of Tuolumne County, California, a granddaughter and great-granddaughter of Rains County, Texas, two stepsons, Josiah Smith of Colorado, and Timothy Smith of North Carolina and their children, as well as extended family and friends in several states. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Andrea Jill Gassner, her parents, James and Theda Hodges, her husband Jules Gassner, along with her brother James Hodges.

She was laid to rest at Shiloh Rest. A Celebration of Life Service is planned for August 13, 2023 at Word of Life Fellowship in MiWuk Village, California at 12 pm.
