In Support of Alcohol License Bill

As the Board Chair of the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce, I am writing to inform you of our recent endorsement of California Senate Bill 1028. This legislation is poised to have a significant positive impact on our region’s tourism and hospitality sector by increasing the flexibility in the issuance of on-sale general licenses (Type 47).

The Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce believes that SB 1028 will enhance our dining and entertainment offerings, create new opportunities for entrepreneurs, and contribute to the overall economic growth and stability of our community. We are confident that this bill will help to make our region an even more vibrant and attractive destination for visitors and residents alike.

In support of this important legislation, we have sent a letter to the state legislature outlining our position and the potential benefits of SB 1028 for Tuolumne County and similar rural areas.

The letter:

On behalf of the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce and its members, we wish to express our enthusiastic support for California Senate Bill 1028. This legislation is an asset for rural areas like ours, where the economy is heavily reliant on tourism.

The nature of our local economy offers limited avenues for development, making it imperative to seize every opportunity to enhance our tourism offerings. SB 1028 addresses this need by increasing the flexibility in the issuance of on-sale general licenses (Type 47), enabling a more vibrant and diverse hospitality sector. This is essential for attracting and retaining visitors, thereby supporting our tourism-driven market.

The benefits of this legislation are clear:

  • It supports the development of a vibrant dining and entertainment scene, which is a key attraction for tourists.
  • It opens up new opportunities for entrepreneurs in our region, encouraging investment and innovation in the hospitality sector.
  • It contributes to job creation and economic stability, ensuring the continued vitality of our local economy.
  • SB 1028 achieves this expansion while preserving crucial local control.

SB 1028 is a proactive measure that supports the growth and sustainability of our tourism-driven economy. It recognizes the unique challenges faced by rural areas and provides the tools needed to capitalize on our strengths.
We strongly endorse this bill and believe it will have a positive impact on Tuolumne County and similar regions throughout California.

Sincerely,
Mathew Galvan
