Wed, June 19, 9 am – 12 pm. We will meet at the Summit Ranger Station at 9 am and caravan to the field. Be prepared to drive on dirt roads.

Dr. Tom Hofstra, will lead us on a tour to look for local fungi. He will cover the natural history of local mushrooms and other fungi including recognizing common local groups and species, ecology, evolutionary biology, tips for finding local fungi, and regulations regarding their collection on the Stanislaus National Forest.

Dr. Hofstra has been teaching folks about local natural history, including mushrooms and other fungi, for two decades. He began instructing students in mycology as a graduate student at the University of California Santa Cruz in 1996. Tom earned a master’s degree in Botany from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from UCSC.

Wear sturdy shoes, hat, bring snacks/ lunch, and water.
