Charlotte Olga McMahon passed away on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024, at the age of 90. She passed away at her home in Sonora California.
Olga Charlotte Osterlye was born on April 3rd, 1934 in San Francisco, California to her parents Charles and Constantina Osterlye. She was the youngest of 9 children. She had a happy childhood growing up in San Francisco, as well as in Napa with her siblings. She was especially close with her sister/best friend Betty “Bets”. She moved to Sonora in her early teens with her family and graduated from Sonora High School at the “Dome”.
She met her husband, Robert McMahon in Sonora in the 50’s and had 5 beautiful children. Charlotte became a Licensed Vocational Nurse in Sonora in the 60’s and continued her nursing career for over 40 years, retiring in 2009. She loved caring for her patients and took much pride in being a healer.
Charlotte loved going on long drives up Sonora Pass, being with family and friends, thrifting and trips to the city. Her favorite pastime was to be in the mountains wandering and enjoying God’s creation.
Char was involved with her church family at The Chapel in the Pines for many years and brought up her children there. She was always grateful for the love and support of her church community and the endearing friendships she made there.
Charlotte leaves behind an enduring legacy with her 4 children, Bob McMahon, Chuck McMahon, Lisa Ballard and Paul McMahon along with their spouses; 9 grandchildren, Nick, Bethany, Bobbi Jo, Steven, Jesse, Dave, Tessi, Meg and Lisa as well as 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son Michael and her grandson Michael.
As per Char’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will take place in the near future with her family, in her favorite place, the High Country.
