Update: Suspicious Package Investigated At TC Sheriff’s Office
Update at 3:20 p.m.: The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office gives more details regarding what was found in a suspicious package found near its communications center this morning. Spokesperson Ashley Boujikian relayed that the box contained devices that “appeared to look like explosives and multiple military-style ordinances.”
Through the investigation, it was determined that a community member, who was not identified, discovered the items and brought them to the office for disposal.
“We want to remind the public that old explosives and ordnances can be very unstable, we ask the public not to handle, cover, move, or transport unwanted explosives or ordnances. We ask the public not to transport any unwanted explosives/ordinances to the sheriff’s office,” advised Boujikian.
Anyone who finds items believed to be old explosives or ordnances on their property should contact the sheriff’s office at 209-533-5815 and a deputy will respond to investigate.
Update and below written by BJ Handen at 11:53 am: The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office main lobby has reopened after a suspicious package was located near the communications center this morning.
Spokesperson Ashley Boujikian states that the Calaveras/San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad safely removed the suspicious package and it is being transported away for disposal. It is not immediately clear what is inside the package.
Original story posted at 9:09 am: Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office lobby is closed this morning as deputies investigate a suspicious package that was located.
It was left by someone near the communications center.
The sheriff’s office has put out a statement, “Please avoid the area while deputies conduct their investigation. The sheriff’s office lobby at 28 Lower Sunset Drive will be closed until it is determined to be safe to resume regular business.”
