Naturalist and author David Lukas will talk about bird colors and patterns at the Wednesday, Nov 20 meeting of the Central Sierra Audubon Society (CSAS. Any interested members of the community are invited to attend the 7 p.m. presentation in person in the Tuolumne County Community Room at 480 Greenley Road in Sonora or view the presentation on Zoom.
Lukas will speak ab out the many types of colors that birds display and how these colors are produced. Lukas says humans and birds see colors in different ways and that birds use colors and patterns in a wide range of ecological and behavioral contexts. This will be the second of a four-part series of talks on bird biology by Lukas who has studied and written extensively about the natural history of birds in the Sierra Nevada.
A former Tuolumne County resident, Lukas currently is based in the Methow Valley in Washington’s Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. He has written seven books and contributed chapters to another 40 books on a range of nature topics. His most recent project is producing a weekly nature newsletter at www.lukasguides.com.
