Poetry Out Loud (POL) is a national arts education program that encourages students to explore the power and beauty of poetry through dynamic recitation. Celebrating 20 years, the program, which has grown since its inception in 2005, has engaged more than 4.4 million students across the United States, helping them master public speaking skills, gain self-confidence, and deepen their appreciation for poetry. POL is made possible through the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Foundation, and the California Arts Council.
The Tuolumne County POL finals promise to be an afternoon of inspiring performances. Students will recite poems from a variety of genres, reflecting their understanding of literary history and contemporary life. Audience members can expect to witness a celebration of both creativity and craftsmanship as these young poets showcase their skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. This event is free and open to the public.
The winner of the Tuolumne County finals will compete in the California state finals in Sacramento (March 16–17) with the possibility of winning monetary prizes and advancing to the Poetry Out Loud National Finals in Washington, D.C. (May 5–7) where a total of $50,000 in prizes and school or organizational stipends will be awarded. TCA encourages everyone to attend and show support for these inspiring young voices.
