Jeff Miller with the Center for Biological Diversity will discuss the status of the Wester Burrowing Owl throughout California at the Wednesday, April 16 meeting of the Central Sierra Audubon Society (CSAS).

The 7 p.m. gathering in the Tuolumne County Library community room is open to any interested members of the community. The presentation also will be carried on Zoom. For Zoom information check the CSAS web site at www.centralsierraaudubon.org.

Other topics will include the campaign to secure legal protections for the burrowing owl, the recent designation of the owl as a candidate species for California Endangered Species Act listing, and the pending decision on endangered or threatened status for regional burrowing owl populations in California.

Miller is a Senior Conservation Advocate with the Center for Biological Diversity. He was the primary author of the 2003 and 2024 state listing petitions for the burrowing owl and organized the coalition of conservation groups and biologists advocating for state protections.
