During this time, she won numerous prizes in national violin and chamber music competitions, and became a member of the National Radio Orchestra of Romania and the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest.
Pianist Ron Brickman grew up in West Point, Calaveras County, where he studied piano with Bim (Mrs. Charles) Brockman. He continued his musical studies through high school, culminating in a solo recital in his senior year. He entered Stanford University in 1962 and graduated with highest honors in 1966. A longtime friend of his piano teacher invited him to work at a small institute of international relations in Paris in 1966-67, and after a year, Ron entered graduate school in political science at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He received his doctorate in 1972. Ron retained his interest in France and did his dissertation on reforms in French higher education. This led to his appointment at the University of Strasbourg, where he remained for four years, specializing in the new interdisciplinary field of social and political influences on science and technology.
