Congress has failed to renew the Violence Against Women Act, stripping many domestic abuse programs of funding and leaving vulnerable women even more helpless, alone, and desperate. Domestic violence remains a crucial issue in Tuolumne County, and women seeking to escape abusive partners need all the help they can get.
Tom McClintock was among those who not only voted against renewing VAWA but refused to consider any version of it, dismissing it as an ineffective “feel-good measure”. Women and male feminists of Tuolumne County, we must stand up for battered women in our community and across America.
In the 90 minutes preceding McClintock’s office hours at 2 South Green Street, I call on you all to join SAN in Courthouse Park and make it clear to McClintock’s staff that we demand VAWA be renewed when Congress returns from recess!
Then, please join us inside and share your stories in person about why VAWA matters.
