Local School District Locks Down Spending
Twain Harte, CA — In light of the state´s financial woes, the Twain Harte-Long Barn Union School District has put a halt on all new spending to conserve cash for the end of the school year.
The decision was made by Superintendent Dr. John Keiter at a district staff meeting on Wednesday.
“Like many school districts in Tuolumne County and the state, we are faced with dire consequences of the legislature´s inability to provide a budget this year,” says Keiter.
Beyond basic supplies and utilities, only previously planned field trips and other pre-planned learning experiences will be funded.
The district receives state funds, and there are rumblings that money may be taken back by the legislature to resolve this year´s budget shortfall.
A similar lockdown on spending was initiated earlier this month in the Summerville Union High School District were Keiter is also the Superintendent.
