Special Budget Meeting For Sonora City Council
Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Council will conduct a special budget meeting this evening.
According to City Administer Greg Applegate, "The purpose of the meeting is to get the budget approved and then we will be monitoring this budget over the next six months until midyear and at midyear if we have not made any dents in the overall deficit at that time we may be forced to make further cuts."
Applegate added that Friday’s stated deficit of $132,000 has been been reduced by approximately $10,000 due to a further reduction for workers compensation and liability premiums.
According to Applegate if any one of four city projects materialize within the fiscal year the deficit would be eliminated by the building permit fees. Those projects are Lowe’s, the WalMart grocery expansion, the new McDonalds off Mono Way and the Cuesta Heights subdivision north of Shaws Flat Rd. (49 single family residences) that was annexed by the city last year.
