Sponsored by:

Washington, D.C. — Oregon Democratic Congressman Peter Defazio informed the Tuolumne County contingent lobbying for passage of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act that it had been pulled by the leadership of the House of Representatives prior to Thursday´s vote on a tax extender package.

County School Superintendent Joe Silva admitted that his group is “deflated” by the news. Tuesday the Senate overwhelmingly passed the package by a 92-3 vote.

Silva now says that he will meet with First District Congressman Mike Thompson who happens to be a close frined of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He is also a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee.

For right now Silva admits, “We are dead in the water.”
