Seven Snowmobilers Found Safe In Stanislaus National Forest

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Seven snowmobilers were found safe in the Windy Ridge/Sardine Creek area of the Stanislaus National Forest Tuesday by Tuolumne County Search and Rescue personnel.

On February 25, the Sheriff´s office received a call from a Modesto resident who reported that her husband and six of his friends were overdue from a snowmobile expedition. Her concern was aggravated by the inclement weather that had descended into the area.

Another party received a call from the snowmobiles that they were safe in a cabin. Still another report stated that one member of the party had left the cabin in an effort to return to a vehicle and had not been heard from since his departure.

The Sheriff´s Department then contracted for the use of a helicopter. With Search and Rescue team members Jimmy Scruggs and Deputy Rob Lyone aboard, the snowmobiles were found to be safe Tuesday in a cabin with plenty of provisions.

They stated they would remain in the cabin until conditions would allow them a safe departure.
