CHP Calls For Safety Review After Death Of Latest Officer
Sacramento, CA — The death of six California Highway Patrol officers since last fall is prompting the CHP to review its safety procedures.
CHP Commissioner Mike Brown says during the two-day “stand-down” field commanders will be reviewing safety procedures with patrol officers.
The statewide stand-down will be in effect for the CHP´s 108 field offices but will not affect deployments or service.
Brown says the rarely used action also will give officers the chance to vent their feelings. He says there´s a lot of anger over the rash of deaths.
The latest came over the weekend when a Southern California motorcycle officer was hit by a suspected drunken driver during a traffic stop.
