Angels Camp Street To Close

Angels Camp, CA — After struggling with what to do over the liability of keeping Demarest Road open to the public, the Angels Camp City Council decided Tuesday to just close it to through traffic.

Demarest Road connects Old Stockton Road to Demarest Street in back of SaveMart.

Demarest is not a city street but the city exercised dominion control when it put gravel on it last year, meaning it is liable.

This year though, residents along the street didn´t want any gravel put it on it, opting to keep their potholes in the hopes that people would stop using it as a short cut.

But those potholes are a danger now.

Tuesday the city council agreed to put up gates at both ends of the road and give keys to the 3 property owners who use it for access. Pearl Cosgrave owns the road and says that´s fine with her.
