Sheriff Bill Pooley was approved in July 2018 to finish Sheriff Jim Mele’s term before he began his four-year-term. His family goes back five generations in the county. Pooley started his career as a member of the Sonora Police Department, later went to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, became the City of Riverbank’s Police Chief, and later the undersheriff in Tuolumne County.
