Teresa Hernandez, BSN, RN, CWON, runs the Outpatient Ostomy Clinic at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She also provides specialized wound and ostomy care for patients at the Medical Center and coordinates a monthly support group for people living with ostomies.
Teresa graduated from San Joaquin Delta College in 1986 with an associate degree in Nursing. She returned to school years later, earning a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from California State University Dominguez Hills. She then earned her certification in ostomy care in 2010. She attends continuing education classes and enjoys reading the latest studies to stay current in her area of expertise.
Teresa moved to Twain Harte in 2002 and has been working for Sonora Regional Medical Center for ten years. Prior to earning her certification in wound and ostomy care, Teresa worked mainly in intensive care. She saw a need for a trained wound nurse, having met many ostomy patients with skin problems. “I became frustrated that I did not have the knowledge to help these people,” Teresa explains. “I can help improve a person’s quality of life by using the knowledge that I have gained.”
