Photos of area wildlife caught on camera will be shown at the September 16 meeting of the Central Sierra Audubon Society.
John Buckley ad Stan Dodson of the Central Sierra Environmental Resources Center (CSERC) will give the presentation which is open to any interested members of the community.
The 7 p.m. program will be in the Tuolumne County Library Community room at 480 Greenley Road in Sonora. The program also can be viewed on zoom. Zoom log-in information is available on the CSAS website at www.centralsierraaudubon.org.

“Basically, it’s almost a year-round treasure hunt,” Buckley said. “We never know what results we’ll get.”

For more than 35 years the CSERC staff has set up and maintained motion-and-heat triggered cameras within the forests of the vast local region. During those years the staff has done year-round photo-detection surveys in the Stanislaus National Forest, and for seven years, also in Yosemite National Park.

Buckley and Dodson will explain how and why they set up the cameras, describe the diversity of areas they have surveyed, and share about some of the challenges of dealing with extreme terrain, winter snow, terrible back country roads, and summer heat.

Of most interest they think will be may photos showing examples of the wildlife species that have visited the camera stations over the years. These include common wildlife such as squirrels and deer and very rare and elusive fur bearers such as the Sierra Nevada Fox.
The birding field trip for September will be to Lyons Lake on Thursday, Sept. 10. Trip leader Darcy Zimmerman will meet participants at the parking area near the restroom at Lyons Lake Road at 8:30 am. Look for the signed left turn off Highway 108 to Lyons Lake, just a mile or two east of Sierra Village. Follow the reasonable gravel road through the open gate for about 2 miles down to the lake and park in sight of the restroom. Rain will cancel. Contact Zimmerman at 209-890-6169 or the Audubon website for more details.
