Naturalist and author David Lukas will talk about “Under the Surface with Bird Bones and Skeletons” at the Wednesday, Oct. 16 gathering of the Central Sierra Audubon Society at the Tuolumne County Library meeting room. Any interested members of the community are invited to attend in person at 7 p.m. or view the presentation on Zoom.
Lukas will talk about how the underlying structure of a bird’s bones and skeletons help it move and fly. He says flight is not just a matter of a bird fapping its wings harder. Flight actually requires many special adaptations and compromises that impact all aspects of the bird’s life. He describes birds as “exquisitely designed creatures f the air.”
