Bruce McClenahan, a Calaveras Big Trees State Park docent, will lead a bird walk at 9:30 a.m. each Thursday through September. He says he cannot guarantee a Pileated Woodpecker (PIWO) or a White-headed Woodpecker (WHWO) every week, but participants will see as many of the 163 species as the group has the good fortune to see. Hikes are gentle with very little elevation gain and last two to four hours. There is a $10 per car entrance fee at the state park.
