A special introductory class to bonsai will be offered by the Mother Lode Bonsai Club on Saturday, April 20 at Solomon’s Garden Nursery, located at 18180 Blue Bell East (off Tuolumne Road) in Sonora. “Bonsai 101” will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon and taught by Richard McKinstry, the club’s president.
Limited to ten participants, the class fee is $35. This includes a bonsai plant, pot, soil, screen, wire, styling assistance and an instructional sheet on future care. Registration and payment can be made at the event.
“If you ever were intrigued by these miniature trees after seeing them on display or possibly owned one yourself in the past, this is the perfect way to learn more about their origin, structural growth, maintenance and basic requirements,” said McKinstry.
All are also invited to club meetings, which are held monthly on the first Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. in the San Andreas Central Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road in San Andreas. Mother Lode Bonsai Club members come from Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, as well as the central valley. Contact Richard McKinstry at (209) 288-2330 or go to the club website at www.motherlodebonsai.org for more information.
