Bonsai styling of lodgepole pine at free club demo

Sam Adina, a highly respected area bonsai expert, will demonstrate styling a lodgepole pine tree at the Mother Lode Bonsai Club’s Saturday, October 3 meeting. His free public presentation will follow the club’s monthly meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the San Andreas Central Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road (off Mountain Ranch Road) in San Andreas.
Adina, who is also the sensei (teacher) for the Modesto Bonsai Club, has been raising and teaching bonsai design for over 25 years. He is recognized as one of the best local bonsai instructors and has conducted presentations for the Golden State Bonsai Federation, California Shohin Society and numerous bonsai venues in the Philippines.
His lodgepole pine was collected recently in the Sierra Nevada and through the demo, Adina will show how to style and apply touches to enhance its beauty and future growth as a bonsai. There are numerous styles to consider in working with this specimen and Adina will explain his choices to accentuate its appearance of age and weathering from natural elements.
Regardless of one’s experience or knowledge of bonsai, all are invited to attend. A raffle will be held for bonsai materials and interested parties can also purchase members’ trees for sale.
The organization’s members come from Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, as well as the San Joaquin Valley. For more info, contact Bev Meyerhoff at (916) 934-6916 or bevmeyerhoff@gmail.com. The club email is motherlodebonsaiclub@gmail.com.
