Bruce McClenahan of the Central Sierra Audubon Society will lead a bird walk on the Walter W. Smith Parkway at Calaveras Big Trees State Park on Thursday, April 17. McClenahan wants to take advantage of the winter closure of the parkway. With no vehicle or pedestrian traffic, the parkway is a pleasant walk on a gentle grade. The birding should be outstanding. Meet at the visitors’ center at 9:30 a.m. to begin the four mile loop. The group can eat lunch at the Scenic Overlook where there is a picnic table and restrooms.
