This spring concert, the final concert of conductor Dr. Daryl Hollinger before retiring, begins with two festive coronation pieces and ends with the somber and timely Ashokan Farewell. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Make a Joyful Noise – The Coronation Anthem, written for the recent coronation of King Charles III of England, opens the concert, and is followed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Coronation Mass for chorus and orchestra.
The second half begins with The Ocean Song, a collaboration of Dr. Hollinger and his wife Bonnie Hollinger, followed by Morten Lauridsen’s haunting Sure on This Shining Night. The concert will also include two jazz settings of Shakespeare’s sonnets and the jazz setting of California Love Song, text by Carol Osterlund of Murphys and music by Dr. Hollinger. The concert continues with the ever-popular singalong arranged by Dr. Hollinger, plus American spirituals, and music for theater and film.
