The Columbia College Orchestra will present their Fall Concerts on Friday, October 23 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, October 25 at 3 p.m. in the Dogwood Forum on the Columbia College campus. Admission is free.
“We will feature one of the pillars of the orchestral repertoire playing Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8,” Godsil said.
This incomplete work was found among Schubert’s paper following his untimely death at age 31. Consisting of only the first and second movements, the Unfinished Symphony was not performed until 37 years after the composer’s death.
“I’m so excited that the orchestra has grown large and skilled enough to present an entire symphony. Additionally, since our concerts fall around the World Series this year, we’ll play some baseball-inspired selections, including James Horner’s movie music from Field of Dreams.”
The orchestra will feature violinists Sam Zabell and David McCarroll performing J.S. Bach’s beloved Double Violin Concerto in D Minor with the string ensemble of the orchestra accompanying them. It is considered one the composer’s most successful works.
This is a free event and all are welcome
