Come enjoy Columbia’s Glorious 4th of July Celebration. Be in the parade, enjoy a band concert and have fun with traditional games like climbing the greased pole, egg relay, 5 way tug of war and much more. It’s small town America at it’s best.

If you’ve ever wanted to march in a parade, this is the best! Short and sweet, and shady, and fun! Decorate yourself, your group, your pets (under 200 pounds), your bicycle, or your vehicle (vintage 1970 or older), and join the noon parade. You might win a prize! This year’s Grand Marshal is Roger Kirby, an institution in Columbia. If you have been in any establishment in Columbia and heard a piano, it was Roger at the keys. Quite a colorful character! Parade registration begins at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Fallon Theatre in Columbia, or call 209-536-1672 to preregister.

Following the parade, listen to the Lucky Cuzn Brass Band concert and try your skill at the many contests popular in the early days of Columbia. The kids will enjoy trying to climb the greased pole, hunting for a needle in the haystack, and participating in the bucket brigade. Other contests for kids and adults include nail pounding, watermelon and pie eating, cake walk, egg relay race and egg toss, and a five-way tug-of-war. Enjoy a pulled pork BBQ lunch Barbecue tickets are $14 for adults and $10 for children under 10.

Come early for the best parking, and bring lawn chairs for viewing the parade and concert. The Independence Day festivities, sponsored by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, will begin with a flag raising and firing of the black powder muskets by the Columbia Foot Dragoons at 11 a.m. For more information, call 1-888-488-1850 or visit
