Speaker: Geologist, Glen White
Join us for a lively discussion of the geologic legacy of Calaveras County and how this land went from being an ocean floor to the mountains, rocks, and minerals we see today. 400 million years of local history! Geologist, Glen White will share examples of common rock types found in Calaveras County and the Motherlode region. Glen has worked with the Museum to identify specimens in the gem and mineral collection in the Mining & Ranching Building, and will be available after the lecture for a trip to that exhibit to answer questions and share information about the geologic samples on display there.

About Glen White
Glen White grew up in Sonora and is honored to be teaching Earth Science courses at Columbia College where he was first inspired to go into the field of geology. After graduating from Columbia, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from CSU Stanislaus. While working as an environmental geologist throughout California, and several sites on the islands of Guam and Saipan, he began teaching part-time at Columbia. For over fifteen years he has worked with numerous elementary school teachers in Calaveras, Tuolumne, and Amador counties to help bring more hands-on activities to their students.
